Part Number extension are required when ordering units with smart chargers. These numbers match the Battery Boss software with the battery type and size.

Internal view (before encapsulation):

Top Side:
Input common mode choke is right, flyback transformer top center, output common mode lower right. Output filters on right side. PIC processor and internal Lithium battery are center.

The PIC code is hand coded assembly and the logic is very dense. Total code size is close to 3K lines. Includes 32 and 16 bit arithmetic, multiply and divide, digital filters process ADC inputs.

Bottom:
Multi channel Analog to Digital section on right. Output filters on upper left. There are a number of snubbing networks around the flyback to reduce internal EMI. RS-232 interface logic and power control on lower left. This is a 4 layer board with multiple plane section in each internal layer.

Controlling the high frequency current paths was a major task. High frequency DC/DC converters are an excellent candidate for packaging in external modules! Getting clean ADC readings from points across the board required a number of RC networks.
